Hey friends!
About a week ago I received my annual “It’s time to renew your website” email. I’ve officially been blogging for 3 years now, and man does time fly by quickly!! Although I’ve been blogging for three years, I’ve just recently gone full time with it! I had been juggling a full time corporate job and blog campaigns for almost THREE YEARS! So crazy. It’s been one heck of a ride, and I’ve never stopped learning. I’m excited to share some of my tips with you!
The beginning was pretty tough for me. I was trying to figure out a pattern – a method to the madness. How do I get creative with my outfits? How do people post all the time? How do I get people to see my content? What should my content be about? I struggled with what I wanted to focus my time and energy on – fashion, makeup, hair tutorials, travel, video – How do I just choose one?? SOS! Have you had those moments? If so, you’re not alone. I don’t think I’ve met a blogger who hasn’t!
I can confidently say that it wasn’t until this spring that I felt comfortable with my page and the voice it portrayed. Before then I was a bit uninspired by my own content. I wasn’t proud. And you know what? I’m thankful for those moments because they led me to be brutally honest with myself. If I wasn’t proud of my page then what was I doing? I regrouped and then began again.
What’s so cool about this creative space is that we get to reinvent who we are anytime we want. You want to post only about travel from now on? Cool! Go do it! You want to post an OOTD every day? Cool!! Go do it! You want to focus on YouTube? Cool!! Go do it!! We can be/do anything we want, at any time. If you’re feeling an itch to make a change, do it. This is your voice, your page, your story and it can be absolutely anything you’d like it to be. Begin now.
So, since it’s my blog’s 3rd birthday party (I wish I could pass you cake through these electronic devices!!) I’m going to answer the most frequent questions I receive about blogging! Let’s do this!!
How do you grow your page?
Engage. Focus on hugging the people who are already hugging you instead of worrying what the rest of the world is doing. Build friendships. Build a community! Bryce always asks me why I reply to comments… Um, because I’m THANKFUL they commented and I want to get to know them!
Who takes your photos? How often do you shoot?
I try to shoot once a week! I have a few photogs that I LOVE to work with: Rachel Rigler, Meghan Savage, Mariah Selena, Shanley Cox.
How do you edit your photos?
I currently edit my photos in Lightroom with a few presets I created!
Do you plan your posts ahead of time?
Definitely! I use the app Planoly and always have the posts for the week ahead planned out and scheduled. All I have to do is click ‘post’ and it’s live, or you can have them autopost for you!
Now that you’re full time, what will change about your blog?
I was pretty consistent with my Instagram and blog when I was juggling a full-time job, so from the outside it might not look like much has changed! However my daily to-do’s are now fully focused on my blog, so I’ve definitely become more actively engaged in my work which I know will pay off!
When did you know it was time to go full-time?
I suggest tracking your income for a few months to make sure you can live comfortably! I made sure my blog’s revenue stayed consistent for four months! It started to be more than my corporate salary, so I knew whenever I wanted to take the leap I’d be OK.
I hope these have helped you! Comment, DM or email me any other questions you have and I’ll add them to this post!! Love ya’ll!
xx – Bec
