Hey ya’ll!
My cousin, Victoria, and I took a trip to Canada and we squeezed as much as we could out of our days! We wanted to make sure we saw and did as much as we could with our time, so we woke up early and stayed up late (sleep on the trains, right?!). Although we were both completely tired by the end of the trip, I wouldn’t have done it any other way! We left feeling like we truly got to know Canada’s east coast and I loved every minute of it. I’m including a full list of everything we did during our 6 days, and am also including a vlog at the end of this post to really give you a look from our eyes! Let’s do this!
Timeline
Day 1
Flew into Toronto and explored the city!
Day 2
Took a train to Niagara Falls. Explored the Falls and came back to Toronto in the evening to sleep!
Day 3
Took a train to Quebec (10 hrs ride!). Explored Old Quebec!
Day 4
Explored Old Quebec!
Day 5
Took the train to Montreal. Explored Montreal!
Day 6
Flew home.
Toronto
Amsterdam Brewhouse: If you are going to eat one meal in Toronto – Eat here! It’s right on the water and you’ll get an incredible view of the sunset. They have fun and affordable beer flights, some delish casual food and great wine options too!
View of City: My cousin Jaydon’s wife, Lacy, visited Toronto for a girls trip and mentioned that Thompson Hotel/Condos is an incredible vie of the city! We weren’t able to fit this into our schedule, yet I looked it up and it’s amazing!! You should definitely go!
Niagara Falls
The Falls: Ah, just wow! The Canadian side has the best views! It’s truly gorgeous. Make sure to walk all the way down the path to see the waterfalls from every angle. Bring a rain jacket if you’re wanting to go on Hornblower (or Maid of the Mist on the USA side)!
Transportation from Toronto: Although the train takes you to “Niagara Falls” it doesn’t drop you off right at the Falls. You have to purchase an $8 We-Go pass to go to and from the train station to the falls!
Food: We chose to eat at the Famous diner and loved it! It’s located inside the casino and is a bit of a hike from the falls (we walked – I would hop on a we-go bus!). The food was delicious!
Old Quebec
There are so many stunning places to visit in Old Quebec – If I tried to list them this blog would be so long! It should definitely be on your must-see list. It truly feels like Europe! Everyone speaks French, the buildings are charming and the cobblestone streets complete it.
Terrace Dufferin: A stunning view! This terrace reminds me of a fortress wall. You’ll most likely walk under it, yet I was happily surprised that you can walk on top of it, too! There are trails and staircases from all directions so it’s easy to find your way up there!
Hobbit Bistro: We stopped by here to grab a drink because it was so packed (always a great sign!) and were amazed by how many reservations were made ahead of time! The food is definitely what brought so many to this restaurant. We were sitting at the bar and heard raving reviews to the waiters about their amazing meals. Although we didn’t grab a bite here, I’d suggest you do!!
Pub de Borgia: This was our favorite restaurant of the trip! It reminded us of a ski lodge – It was so cozy, there’s exposed stone everywhere, board games, soul music and just all around good vibes. Please do not leave without ordering the French Onion Soup! It’s the BEST!
Montreal
Old Port: We only were in Montreal for a day, and I’m so glad we stumbled upon Old Port! It’s so charming with restaurants, boutiques and so much more! If you’re renting a bike (see my tips for more info on this) then you’ll be able to see everything so quickly! There are also bike racks there so you can ditch it if you’d like!
William Gray Hotel: A local told us about this rooftop and I’m beyond grateful he did! It’s right in Old Port and the view is gorgeous! I suggest going during the sunset – The cotton candy skies behind the ferris wheel is a true sight!
Mount Royal: If you’re looking for an adventure with a view, hike Mount Royal! This was one of my favorite memories of the trip. It’s quite the hike (probably takes 20 minutes to get to the top) so wear athletic gear! And get that booty ready because the stairs seem never-ending. Don’t worry, though – The view at the top is 100% worth it!
Tips
- Via Rail: Book ahead! They have sales every Tuesday so check their site then! The trips within the country have Wifi, and if you’re able to afford it book business class! The other areas are pretty outdated.
- Rent a bike to site-see in Montreal! It’s $5 per day and their city is truly meant for bikes. There are dedicated bike lanes everywhere – I loved it!
- It’s encouraged to try some Poutine when you’re in Canada! It’s french fries topped with gravy and cheese curds 🙂
Take the trip with us!! Check out our vlog here:
Until next time, friends!!
