Hey friends!
Let’s talk home-buying. I feel like I’m at an age where people are always discussing how they want to buy a home (to give their dog a better life, of course), yet they don’t know where to begin! It can feel like a daunting task and huge commitment, so I want to share my experience with you to help you better understand the process!
Bryce and I bought our home two years ago. We were first-time home buyers and we were relying on the recommendations of others to guide us through. Luckily, their recommendations were beyond perfect for us, and I’m excited to pass them on to you!
Step 1:
Find a reliable mortgage team. We were recommended by one of Bryce’s coworkers to CommunityAmerica Credit Union! We were ready to get pre-qualified, also known as a loan application. They send over a list of paperwork that’s needed for proof of income, they evaluate and then advise the price range of homes we should be touring! I really appreciated this, as the one thing I do not ever want to be is house poor nor do I want to waste time touring homes we simply can’t afford! CommunityAmerica helped us stay on the right track.
Step 2:
Start touring homes! Now that CommunityAmerica gave us a price range, we could now start seriously looking at homes. We toured so many homes in a 3-month time-span and decided what was most important to us – location! A hot location is a must if you want your re-sale value to be as good as your purchase price. We found our humble abode in Fairway, KS and our offer was accepted!
Step 3:
If you have a low interest rate, lock it in! The CommunityAmerica team helped us lock in a low interest rate and we’re so thankful for this! We chose to do a Fixed Rate Mortage with them, which means our payments will be consistent for the life of the loan. Our insurance and taxes may increase, yet our mortgage will not!
Step 4:
Enjoy CommunityAmerica’s Profit Payout! In 2018 CommunityAmerica gave back $8.4 million to their members, and Bryce and I were a part of that! The average Profit Payout per qualifying household with a mortgage was $300 (get details here), and we were so appreciative of this gesture! How often do you see any bank or credit union doing something like this?!
The whole process was truly seamless, thanks to the help of the CommunityAmerica Mortgage Team! It could’ve been such a stressful time, and instead we felt peace knowing we found a great home, our mortage is at a fixed rate, and our loan is with a credit union that’s always a phone call away.
If you want to start the process, or simply become more familiar with the processes, check out this informational page on CommunityAmerica’s site! If you live or work in or around Kansas City, you should really look into joining CommunityAmerica. You won’t regret it!
As always, I’m here if you need me! Just holler at me – I’ll be in my backyard doing as home-owners do.. Planting a salsa and pizza garden, of course!
xx,
Becca
