“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.”
This one is for all you out there who constantly look to your left and right, comparing yourself to the “flowers” who stand beside you. And let’s be honest, we’ve each done this at least once! But with time I’ve learned that this is a negative and dangerous habit. It’s negative and dangerous because “comparison is the thief of joy” and it’s a habit because it can easily be stopped.
People often ask me if competing in Miss Missouri USA and Miss USA was hard because I was constantly surrounded by stunning women, and my answer is always no. It’s not because I think I’m prettier than anyone, and it’s not because I think I’m better than anyone. It’s because I know that I was fearfully and wonderfully made and every part of me was made for a reason. My imperfections are perfect in God’s eyes, so they’re perfect in mine too. And the same is true for YOU! You are perfect in your own, unique way.
I truly think the moment we recognize this and embody this mindset is the moment our hearts reach their peak of happiness and contentment. The moment you realize that you, too, are a delicate flower is the moment your eyes will start facing forward. Life is full of seasons. Some seasons you may grow a lot, and other seasons your growth might be stunted. It’s a part of life! And that’s why competing and/or comparing yourself to the flower next to you simply doesn’t make any sense – They’re not even in the same season as you! So what’s there to compare? You are perfect in your own way and in your own season.
Focus on you and water the flowers around you with encouragement. We’re all growing together, after all.
With love, Rebecca

A great lesson for young girls, Rebecca. It’s hard for them with all the comparisons that can be made on social media and other areas.
